Potty training is very important for pets and all the more so for dogs. Potty training a puppy is important as the puppy will retain those habits when it grows up into a dog. Most people find it really frustrating to train a puppy because most dogs grow fairly quickly and can have nature calling after almost every meal. It is different for every breed of puppy but there are some common guidelines that can easily be followed to help train your dogs well.
Here are some helpful tips for potty training your puppy:
Follow the puppy’s schedule: It is important to follow a puppy’s schedule of eating, sleeping and exercising as their bowel movements depend on their activities. Young pups do not have the stomach of dogs yet so their bowels are sensitive so it is important to make a chart for their timings. It is important to walk the puppy immediately after they wake from a nap, after they eat and also after they play. It is also good to follow proper feeding time tables, get in touch with the breeder of your dog or a vet to know more about your puppy’s feeding schedules and follow it.
Look for signs from your puppy: When you notice your puppy looking around, it is probably because it needs to go and you should go with it. Take it outside and accompany it so that you can give the puppy the much needed support.
Do not punish your puppy: one of the most important tips for training a puppy is that if it does make a mistake and takes a dump in the house, do not punish or scold it. Take the dog to the place you reserved for its potty and stand there with it. Over time, the pup begins to understand what you ask from it and will follow suit.
